CHALLENGES

Once you've come into your own, you can start having some extra fun. When you reach a high school of 1000 pins in each city, you will unlock challenge mode. Every challenge mode comes with two or three variables that affect your road-building and traffic management strategies. Each city comes with its own treats and tricks. Here are some common ones you will encounter:

Treats

SKY'S THE LIMIT!

If you see a road or upgrade icon with an infinity symbol, that means you have an unlimited amount for the entire game! You won't have to wait until Sunday to receive them and you can use them at any time.

KEEP THE CHANGE

If you see an upgrade icon with a heart, that means you won't have to use road tiles to build them! This can really come in handy, especially when you've got lots of mountains and rivers to cross. You can save those extra road tiles for a rainy day.

PAID IN ADVANCE

If you see an upgrade icon accompanied by a plus sign, you will be given a handful of that item to start your game with! Don't worry, you will still be able to collect more as the weeks go by. Use your extra stock to get yourself out of a pinch.

DOUBLE BLESSING

If you see an icon with two 'up' arrows, that means you'll get double the normal amount awarded each week!

Tricks

A LIMITED BUDGET

If you see a road or upgrade icon with an asterisk, you will be given a lump sum amount of that item to use for the entire game and you will not be offered any extra during weekly upgrades. And yes, you read that right: it sometimes applies to your precious road tiles, so don't be afraid to cut those corners!

BUSY, BUSY

If you see a destination icon, that means that some destination colors will always start as circles. If there is a star next to it, that means all destinations will start as circles. Either way, you'll have to contend with busier roads, more traffic, and crowded parking lots. Do you know how to manage your traffic?

SWERVE!

If you see this tree icon with a heart in the center, don't be fooled. This means that you will not be able to draw roads over any trees that populate on your map for the entire game. This can prove annoying at the best of times when trying to draw a straight line from one place to another, so keep calm and use your road tiles sparingly.

OUT OF LUCK

If you see an upgrade icon with a cross out sign, unfortunately, you'll have to make it through the game without any of that upgrade. Imagine: no bridges and you're building your metropolis right by the Rio Grande! Better be resourceful.
